\u00bfConoces la microbioma oral<\/strong>? Es un complejo ecosistema formado por m\u00e1s de 700 especies de bacterias que viven en un complejo equilibrio en nuestra boca y cumplen funciones esenciales para nuestra salud, no solo oral.<\/p>\n

Qu\u00e9 es y por qu\u00e9 es tan importante<\/h3>\n

Como ya hemos dicho, se compone de bacterias, hongos y virus que habitan en las distintas superficies de nuestra boca (lengua, enc\u00edas, mucosa, dientes o saliva), y cuyo equilibrio nos protege frente a determinados pat\u00f3genos, contribuye a la digesti\u00f3n de los alimentos y al sistema inmune.<\/p>\n

Por ello, cuando ese equilibrio se altera -lo cual se conoce como disbiosis-, se desencadenan procesos inflamatorios y enfermedades como la periodontal o la caries. Adem\u00e1s, algunas investigaciones recientes han demostrado que el desequilibrio no se limita a la boca ya que estas bacterias pasan al torrente sangu\u00edneo y se asocian con enfermedades cardiovasculares, diabetes del tipo 2 o enfermedades como Alzheimer.<\/p>\n

Por ejemplo, en una revisi\u00f3n publicada en\u00a0Nature Reviews Microbiology<\/em> se describ\u00eda al microbioma oral como \u201cun ecosistema clave en la interfaz entre el cuerpo y el entorno\u201d, con influencia directa en la salud sist\u00e9mica. Adem\u00e1s, se ha localizado ADN de bacterias relacionadas con la enfermedad periodontal en las placas arteriales y el tejido cerebral de pacientes con demencias como el Alzheimer, lo que sugiere un v\u00ednculo causal entre ambas afecciones.<\/p>\n

Qu\u00e9 desequilibra el microbioma oral y c\u00f3mo podemos mantenerlo<\/h3>\n

Hay varias razones que pueden llevar al desequilibrio de este complejo ecosistema de bacterias: los az\u00facares simples, el tabaquismo, el alcohol, el estr\u00e9s e incluso ciertos f\u00e1rmacos como los antibi\u00f3ticos o los antidepresivos.<\/p>\n

Evitar lo m\u00e1ximo posible estas \u00faltimas y una correcta higiene bucodental (cepillado tras las comidas, uso de hilo o cepillos interdentales y revisiones peri\u00f3dicas) son la base que nos ayuda a prevenir ese desequilibrio.
