class=\"wp-caption-text\">Controlling periodontal disease is of great importance in diabetic patients.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Specifically<b>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.consejodentistas.es\/pdf\/RCOE4\/RCOE4.pdf\">Periodontal diseases affect more than 85% of the adult population in Spain.<\/a><\/b> (Oral Health Survey in Spain, 2010), so adult patients with diabetes should be especially cautious in caring for their teeth and gums.<\/p>\n<p>In this sense, it is important to note that the presence of gum disease is related to a situation of chronic inflammation at the oral level that can be transferred to the general circulation, something that a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.velezylozano.com\/es\/la-clinica\/\">dentist with expertise in the characterised mainly by gingival bleeding and bone and gum loss, on diabetes are:<\/p>\n<p>- Increased insulin resistance, as in obese people, making it difficult to control blood sugar.<\/p>\n<p>- Possible glucose intolerance<\/p>\n<p>- Loss of lipid metabolism regulation<\/p>\n<p>In addition, in healthy patients, <b>uncontrolled gum disease is associated with an increased risk of diabetes mellitus.<\/b>It is therefore important to have periodontal treatment by a periodontist to reduce the risk of complications from diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>This is especially important in the case of diabetic children, who should carefully follow the <a href=\"http:\/\/flyerlpa.wordpress.com\/2012\/12\/29\/el-nino-diabetico-cuidados-para-una-buena-salud-bucodental\/\">paediatric dental hygiene instructions<\/a> as indicated by your paediatric dentist according to your particular conditions.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, Dr. Mar\u00eda Victoria Garc\u00eda Zafra, doctor and specialist in
