{"id":8280,"date":"2016-05-31T06:00:50","date_gmt":"2016-05-31T06:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/velezylozano.com\/recomendaciones-bucodentales-para-pacientes-oncologicos\/"},"modified":"2016-05-31T06:00:50","modified_gmt":"2016-05-31T06:00:50","slug":"oral-recommendations-for-oncology-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/velezylozano.com\/en\/oral-recommendations-for-oncology-patients\/","title":{"rendered":"Oral recommendations for cancer patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><u>Before treatment<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Patients diagnosed with cancer should undergo an oral check-up prior to the start of cancer treatment.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1378\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.velezylozano.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/quimio.png?resize=800%2C695&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"chemo\" width=\"800\" height=\"695\"><\/p>\n<p>The general lines of action are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The necessary root canals (killing the nerve) will be carried out at the latest one week before the start of chemotherapy.<\/li>\n<li>Non-restorable teeth, wisdom teeth at risk of infection and mobile teeth should be extracted two weeks prior to the start of treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning and removal of any tissue irritants should also be carried out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ADvVRIoNHIo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If the patient has a removable prosthesis (\"put in and take out\"):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If it has an inadequate fit, it must be removed.<\/li>\n<li>If the setting is correct, it can be maintained.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><u>During treatment.<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Brushing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It should preferably be done with an Oral-B PRO 2000 (CN170109.1) oscillating-rotating-pulsating electric toothbrush for thorough plaque control.<\/li>\n<li>It should be done 2-3 times a day, for a minimum of 120 seconds each time.<\/li>\n<li>After brushing, the mouth should be rinsed with water.<\/li>\n<li>The brush should be air-dried and changed every 2-3 months.<\/li>\n<li>Toothpaste should contain fluoride, ideally combined with tin, Oral-B Pro-Expert (CN 165793.0).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tongue hygiene:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The tongue should be cleaned with a Halita tongue scraper (CN 313585.6).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interdental hygiene:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flossing\/threading once a day.<\/li>\n<li>In case of gingival recession, a suitable interdental brush should be used.<\/li>\n<li>The floss and interdental brush can be replaced by an irrigator with an alcohol-free chlorhexidine 0.12% liquid reservoir such as Perio Aid (CN 342261.1).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rinses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rinses containing alcohol should not be used.<\/li>\n<li>To alleviate the oral dryness characteristic of the treatment, it can be rinsed with a saline solution containing sodium bicarbonate:\n<ul>\n<li>1 litre of water + 1 tablespoon of salt + 1\/2 tablespoon of bicarbonate in a glass bottle that is shaken well before each use.<\/li>\n<li>Several rinses should be performed daily for 2 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Sodium bicarbonate neutralises the acidity generated by the reduced secretion of saliva, thus counteracting the development of caries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Oral treatments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You should see your dentist every three months.<\/li>\n<li>Treatments that affect the oral mucosa, such as extractions, dental implants or periodontal treatments, should not be carried out.<\/li>\n<li>In case of dental emergencies during chemotherapy treatment, your dentist will contact your oncologist to arrange the necessary treatment.<\/li>\n<li>If the patient has a removable prosthesis (\"put-on and take-off\"), the care of these prostheses must be reinforced during cancer treatment:\n<ul>\n<li>If the prosthesis is made of resin, it should be immersed every night in a solution of Corega Bio-active Oxygen.<\/li>\n<li>If the prosthesis is metal, it should be soaked every night in a solution of water and betadine (10 parts water to 1 part betadine).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before treatment Patients diagnosed with cancer should undergo an oral check-up prior to the start of cancer treatment.<\/p>","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":8281,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-8280","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Recomendaciones bucodentales para pacientes oncol\u00f3gicos - V\u00e9lez &amp;
