In the previous article we explained what periodontal disease is, the causes, symptoms and most frequent complications of this pathology, which is so common in our patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time, we will talk about solutions: what treatment we can do and how we can prevent its appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treatment: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Treatment may vary depending on the severity of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initial treatment of the gums consists of the following scaling and root planing<\/strong>also called curettages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scaling and root planing is a very conservative treatment for our gums. By applying local anaesthesia, it allows us to access the deepest parts of our gums in order to clean and disinfect correctly without our patients reporting sensitivity or pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the indicated option for mild and moderate cases. In addition, it must be accompanied by correct hygiene techniques, so that the patient is able to keep plaque under control at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In cases of more advanced periodontitis, <\/strong>it is necessary to have recourse to a surgical treatment<\/strong> of the gums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a minimally invasive surgery that allows us to clean and disinfect areas that are very difficult to access. It also allows us to repair and regenerate the areas most affected by this pathology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens after treatment?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once the treatment has been carried out, the gum becomes less inflamed and the bacterial microbiota is rebalanced. Periodontitis is a chronic disease, which means that if we neglect hygiene or check-ups, we are sure to suffer from it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, it is essential to follow a\u00a0maintenance or monitoring programme<\/strong>\u00a0to prevent and control the possible occurrence of relapses. Especially if the risk factors mentioned in the previous article are still present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These programmes are based on plaque controls, to find out how well we are brushing and, if necessary, to reinforce hygiene techniques. In addition, a radiographic control and periodic cleanings are carried out to prevent periodontal disease from recurring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can we avoid or prevent Periodontitis?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The best way to prevent periodontitis <\/strong>is to go to the dental clinic for regular check-ups and cleanings. This will ensure that the disease is controlled and thus prevent its progression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
