Today, February 9th, is the feast day of Saint Apollonia, patron saint of dentistry and dentists in Murcia and throughout the Catholic world. This martyr, who was invoked in the Middle Ages when suffering from toothache or pain related to the mouth, is represented in classical Christian iconography as a young maiden holding a pair of tongs in her hand.
There are many dental clinics that join in the celebration of their patron saint and, as is tradition, the College of Dentists of Murcia has scheduled various activities or events to celebrate it. Last weekend a paddle tennis tournament took place, in which three dentists from our clinic took part, namely Diego Saura, Francisco Sánchez-Alcaraz and Ana Pérez. Tomorrow the traditional dinner will take place.
We, for our part, would like to take this opportunity to share with you the reasons that led our colleague Raquel to become a dentist, as we are particularly excited about it.
